Cuts down the sound by 90 %. I know that sound a lot but it really does. You would find difficulty in hearing the instrument in the next room so your neighbors will definitely benefit. How that works I don't honestly know but the neoprene (the material diving suits are made of) band allows the mute to sit comfortable in the bell while still enables a small amount of sound to emerge. It does not hinder your playing at all. Plays equally well in all registers. You will be amazed. I know they are expensive but they are well worth it, believe me. It will make practising a lot easier, thats for sure. Perfect for warming up before a gig.
