Peter Richardson

Peter was born in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and started to play the Cornet at the age of 6 by his father who was a brass instrument teacher. At the age of 9 Peter joined his first brass band of which his father conducted. In 1999 at the age of 17 Peter decided to join the Territorial Army as a Cornet / Trumpet player and which he stayed for 3 years.

In 2002 Peter Joined the Royal Marines School of Music as a Cornet and Violin player. In 2005 he graduated and was drafted to the Band of HM Royal Marines, Commando Training Centre, Lympstone Devon where he served for 2 and a half years.

In December 2007 Peter left the Royal Marines and moved back to North Lincolnshire where he started to play for and then also took over as Musical Director of Barrow Concert Band.

In January 2008 Peter was appointed the Principal Cornet and Regimental Bugler of the 150th (Yorkshire) Transport Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers) and has travelled all around Europe including Germany and Gibraltar. In September 2009, Peter was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

Peter is now on a Corps of Army Music Bursary at Salford University reading music and when completed will then be drafted to a band within the British Army and aims to one day become a Director of Music.

Whilst at University Peter has had the opportunity to play with many of the top brass bands in the country including: The Black Dyke Band, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, YBS and The Fairys Band.

Peter has currently being recording a television for BBC 2 called “A Band for Britain” which shall be hitting screens in February to March 2010.
